We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Detroit 

At the Junior League of Detroit, we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.  

Our current community goal is to increase neighborhood access for children to educational support and increase food security for children and families. We work toward this goal by identifying unaddressed and under-addressed needs in the community, using committee structures to address these needs, and providing leadership through dedicated volunteers who tackle projects and programs. Homegrown subject matter experts in our membership and our ability to create leadership opportunities for members deepen our ability to address issues such as literacy, food insecurity, and more. 

So far, we have made progress on our goals through community partnerships with Brilliant Detroit and are strategizing on plans to join with other community thought leaders to work on  an expanded set of issues including community engagement, food insecurity, and literacy – all issues which are connected to our larger goals of broad educational support and food security for Wayne County families.  

Our goal is to help Detroit women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do, then put those talents to work in the communities that need it. Our current focuses on food insecurity, family literacy, advocacy and leadership development give women opportunities to grow, while positively impacting the communities where they live and work.  

 

We’re Creating Fulfilling Leadership Opportunities Throughout Detroit 

The Junior League of Detroit offers so much more than local volunteering opportunities! Our League of leaders creates real change by advancing social activism-focused projects that directly benefit the communities of Detroit. By giving women the tools to lead, educating them about their communities’ needs, and helping them put their unique brand of creativity and skill to work, the Junior League of Detroit is making a big impact on Detroit.  

 

We’re Transforming Detroit Communities by Challenging the Status Quo 

No matter what we’re currently focusing on, the Junior League of Detroit’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action and leadership. We have identified food insecurity and family literacy as the most pressing issues in our community right now, and we are helping local women take action to resolve it. We have created strong partnerships with community organizations and provide important volunteer and leadership opportunities for our members to bring their expertise, passion, and grit directly into service for our community.  We believe that these impactful actions have the power to bring us closer to our goal of a Detroit where all children and families can succeed.
