President’s Message

Let’s Talk About Tools To Help With The Life Balance We All Need
Dear League Members,
In the midst of our tireless efforts to uplift our community, many of us carry invisible loads—balancing caregiving, careers, and the quiet weight of expectations. I see you. I hear you. And AJLI does too.
As members of the Junior League of Detroit, we are caregivers, parents, professionals, activists, advocates, breadwinners—and more. We have far too much on our plates. Sometimes, the stress and overwhelm seep in deeper than we admit. I’ve heard it from some of you, and I’ve felt it myself. No one is immune.
The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) understands this, and its’s launched a powerful new initiative to elevate the conversation around the mental overload women face from trying to do it all. It’s called:
Every Woman. All Things.
The title alone is a bold recognition of what we carry—before, during, and after our volunteer work is done.
AJLI describes the initiative as “an opportunity for us to show the strength of our network and bring international attention to an issue that affects every woman, everywhere. Women today face unprecedented mental overload: unique aging challenges, balancing caregiving, financial security and workplace stress, societal expectations, and the curated comparisons of social media. Together we’re saying, enough.”
This initiative is about awareness, action, and collective change. It’s fueled by the power of the Junior League network to spotlight member’s mental well-being and drive systemic solutions around shared responsibilities, aging, caregiving, workplace challenges, and financial insecurity.
Let’s Talk About It
As a part of the initiative, AJLI is inviting women ages 18+ who currently are or have recently volunteered to participate in a confidential research survey about mental overload and role strain. The survey closes on November 13.
Learn more about the study and complete the survey here!
Additionally, AJLI will be hosting conversations with members across the country to find solutions and lead change. As a women’s organization, they’re committed to making life easier—to helping us master the juggle through advocacy, awareness campaigns, and cultural transformation.
We’ll be hearing more from AJLI soon. In the meantime, let’s begin our own conversations. Let’s name the common denominators that overwhelm us. Let’s explore tools that can lighten our load.
When we find balance, we recharge—and that gives us the strength to fulfill our mission, support our community partners, and uplift one another.
The JLD Board of Directors is already discussing how we can bring this initiative to life locally. If you have ideas or suggestions for tools that could help, please share them. We’re all in the same boat, seeking ways to sustain our League and ease the personal impact of juggling it all.
Let’s keep this conversation going. Share your thoughts, your ideas, and your truths. Together, we can build tools that strengthen our League—and each other.
Warmly,
Sandra Davis
JLD President
